Burgess rushed into Melbourne Rebels squad early

Former Wallabies scrumhalf Luke Burgess has been rushed into the Melbourne Rebels squad after injuries to other players and could make his Super Rugby comeback this weekend against the Brumbies.

Following the selection of Nick Phipps in the Wallabies preliminary squad and injury to utility back Richard Kingi, 2014 Rebels signing Luke Burgess has joined the squad early and is available for selection this week against his former Club, the Brumbies.

The 29-year-old Burgess was set to join the Rebels for the 2014 season, but has been drafted in earlier than expected due to a combination of injuries at the Rebels and the selection of Nick Phipps in Australia’s squad for a three-test series against the British and Irish Lions.

The 37 test Wallaby half has played for legendary European club Toulouse in the French Top 14 for the past two seasons, signing a three year contract with the Rebels from 2014.

Burgess was part of the original Melbourne Rebels, who were runners up in the short-lived Australian Rugby Championship (ARC) in 2007.
