Reds beat Melbourne Rebels in Brisbane

This week’s Reds vs Melbourne Rebels clash puts Wallabies coach Robbie Deans’s selections to the test as Quade Cooper and James O’Connor go head to head.

We are waiting for the kick off.
0.01: Jason Woodward kicks off and we are underway. The Reds kick the ball straight out after they catch it.
2.00: The Rebels enjoy a strong start on attack. The Reds concede a penalty so they will kick for posts.
3.00: James O’Connor takes the kick and nails it. O’Connor has now scored 500 Super Rugby points.
5.00: The Rebels are pushing hard at the Reds. James Slipper puts in a try saving tackle on Scott Higginbotham.
7.00: The Reds win a line out on the 5m line. Cooper kicks for touch but it goes out about 15m out.
10.00: The Reds manage to keep the Rebels out and build some pressure in the Rebels half.
11.00: The Reds take a quick line out and counter attack. They get to the 5m line but they lose it forward.
12.00: The Reds win a 5m scrum. They set up a maul but it goes to ground. The Reds keep the ball alive but the Rebels go offside.
14.00: Cooper will kick for posts from near the touchline. He nails it.   
18.00: The Reds are growing in confidence and starting to throw the ball around.
20.00: The game is held up by an injury to Hugh Pyle. He comes off injured. Cadeyrn Neville comes on.
21.00: Fight. Beau Robinson and Scott Fuglistaller pile into each other. The players get separated and we go to the TMO. It’s a yellow card for Beau Robinson. O’Connor kicks for touch with the penalty.
23.00: The Rebels win the line out and use the numbers and get ball over the line. Caderyn Neville comes up with the ball. It looks to be held up. We go back for a penalty.
24.00: The Rebels scrum with the penalty. They win another penalty and scrum again.
26.00: Still on the Reds 5m line. Another penalty. It’s against Greg Holmes who gets a warning. We scrum again.
27.00: The scrum fails to complete again and we have another reset. And another.
29.00: The scrum finally completes and the Rebels lose the ball, the Reds get a boot to it and kick it upfield. The Rebels get back and try to counter attack.
30.00: Wow, the Rebels keep on attacking and then Luke Morahan gets an intercept and races away and scores. TRY!
31.00: Cooper slots the conversion and Robinson comes back on. The Reds actually added 7 points in his absence.
32.00: Woodward gets away on the wing and thinks he has scored but he is called back for a forward pass.
33.00: Huge blow for Quade Cooper and his Wallabies v Lions ambitions. Cooper ties to clear the ball with a kick under the posts and Scott Fuglistaller charges it down and scores a try under the posts.
35.00: O’Connor adds the conversion.
37.00: The Reds are attacking in the Rebels half. They can’t get through so Quade Cooper takes a drop goal.
39.00: Oh my! Quade Cooper tries to clear another ball downfield and Rory Sidey gets the ball from a charge down by Nic Henderson and scores the Rebels second TRY!
40.00: O’Connor slots the conversion. It’s half time.
