Blues get bitten by Sharks

The first semi-final of the 2007 Super 14, between the Sharks and the Blues in Durban on Saturday, has all the makings of an epic game of rugby.

There is a hint of grudge and revenge; there is the tradition of rivalry, the influx of youthful and dynamic talent, plus the grit of hardened physicality which both sides possess that are bound to clash in a mass of colour and speed.

What’s more is that watched by a full house in Durban, this potent mix is sure to be ignited by all the spark of a knock-out game.

These two sides were the early pace-setters in the competition, with both sides having to climb out of slumps to guarantee their spot in the final four.

The Blues came out with Force and got a maul rolling. The Sharks gave away a penalty for bringing the maul down.


Isa Nacewa had a shot at goal but missed.


The Sharks got a penalty straight back and Percy Montgomery slotted it between the posts.  


The Blues are putting the Sharks under huge pressure and its paying off as the Sharks make mistakes.


Tony Woodcock drives for the line and comes very close to scoring but is bashed out by big AJ Venter.


The Sharks are battling to get out of their own half.


Johann Muller gives a penalty away and this time Isa Nacewa slots it to level the scores.


Ryan Kankowski has a great run for the Sharks, the Blues then give away a penalty and Percy Montgomery slots another penalty.


Butch James caught the Blues napping and slotted a drop goal for the Sharks.


The Sharks get stuck into the game and have a great passage of play. Jacques Botes dives over the line for a try but touch judge James Leckie says it was forward.


The Blues clear from the scrum.


The Sharks continue their attack and Johann Muller scores the first try of the match. The conversion goes wide.


On the stroke of half time the Sharks Waylon Murray gives a penalty away for playing the ball on the ground. Isa Nacewa slots the penalty and Stuart Dickinson blows for half time.

The second half is underway.


The Sharks picked up an early penalty but Francois Steyn sent the ball to the left of the posts.


The Blues got the first try of as Isaia Toeava cut through the Sharks line and passed to Rudi Wulff who scored. Nacewa missed the conversion. The Blues are right back in this.


Percy Montgomery has a shot at a drop goal but misses it.


Again Isaia Toeava cuts through the Sharks line and passes to  Isa Nacewa who scores the Blues second try. Toeava however goes down injured and then goes off.(ligaments ?)


Isa Nacewa converts and the Blues lead the Sharks in the semi final.


The Blues give away a penalty and Percy Montgomery slots it to bring the Sharks within a point of the Blues.


The Blues are really testing the Sharks. With just under 20 minutes to go it seems that nerves are getting to the Sharks.


The Sharks gather their composure a little and get a good rolling maul going. The Blues bring it down and give away a penalty.
