Cheetahs winger Le Roux set to leave SA

The Cheetahs improvement in Super Rugby this season has not gone unnoticed by foreign clubs and now players like wing Willie le Roux are being hunted for overseas contracts.

The Cheetahs are having their best ever Super Rugby season and foreign clubs are now keeping a close eye on the talent in Bloemfontein.

Cheetahs wing Willie le Roux has been offered millions of rands to leave South Africa according to Volksblad newspaper but his provincial union, Griquas say they will do their best keep him in Kimberley

Griquas CEO Arni van Rooyen told the newspaper that they will try to increase Le Roux’s salary significantly but in the end it will be up to the player himself to decide if he wants to stay.

“Willie’s contract with Griquas ends on October 31. We’ll definitely make a big offer to retain his sevices,” said Van Rooyen.

“However, other clubs from outside are making offers worth millions of rands which will make it very tough for us to keep him,” Van Rooyen added.

Le Roux has already said that he likes playing his rugby in Kimberley, but Bok coach Heyneke Meyer has shown little interest in the winger which could lead to him playing abroad in the future.

Van Rooyen said that they will not allow Le Roux an early release and that at the very least he will play Currie Cup rugby for them later this year.
