Hoskins thanks role players

SARugby president Regan Hoskins has issued a statement thanking everyone involved in SArugby after two SA teams finished on top of the league.

The statement reads as follows.

This weekend will go down in history as one of the most momentous periods the South African rugby fraternity has ever experienced.

From the end of the last games last weekend, the celebratory air of optimism reverberated throughout the country, as all of us came to realize that we were beginning to live our dream. Never in the history of the Super Series have we had two semi-finals in South Africa, with both of our teams looking to do their home fans proud.

Significantly, South Africans from all corners of the country are united in their support for the two franchises that are in the running for a place in the last two. From our point of view as the South African Rugby Union, this is incredible, as this feeling will serve as a critical building block for our support for the national team when the Springbok season starts later this month.

A special word of thanks to all the role-players who have lifted us to this level. The players, coaches and management teams of the Sharks and Vodacom Bulls have played an amazing role in enhancing the positive image of our rugby in the eyes of the world. They have truly been model ambassadors for the rugby fraternity, in a year when we need all the encouragement, as it is a Rugby World Cup year.

The supporters of the game and fans of all five franchises are a key component in what is the ultimate game plan for our teams, as they face stiff competition from their counterparts in New Zealand and Australia. Fans in Durban and Pretoria and all over the country have rallied behind the Sharks and the Vodacom Bulls from the beginning of the campaign up until today. I am convinced they will continue to do so in the future.

Thanks to the series sponsors, Vodacom, and their staff for providing such impeccable service and support to our teams and the tournament. We are now reaping the rewards of their hard work and dedication to the game.

Finally, I want to congratulate the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union and the Blue Bulls Rugby Union leadership and their staff members for the sterling work throughout the season. They have truly done us proud.

Good luck to the Vodacom Bulls and the Sharks.
