Jonny Wilkinson puts pen to paper with Toulon

Former England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has signed a new one-year contract with French Top 14 Rugby club Toulon.

The 33-year-old continues to impress and his masterful display of kicking and defending helped his team beat Leicester in the Heineken Cup quarterfinals, and led to suggestions he should be selected by the British and Irish Lions for the upcoming tour of Australia.

The French club announced the signing on its website on Tuesday. Wilkinson’s current contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

He is the second-highest point-scorer in test history.

The Lions squad is announced on April 30.
