Southern Kings beat Rebels in Melbourne

The Rebels and the Southern Kings meet for the first time in Super Rugby and the Rebels will be looking for their first home victory since Round 1.

The Rebels kick off and we are underway.
2.00: The Southern Kings make a decent start to the match as they keep the Rebels pushed back.
3.00: James O’Connor kicks and finds touch behind the Rebels defence.
5.00: The Rebels are showing some imagination and intent. The Kings defence is however solid.
8.00: The Southern Kings get the ball on attack and George Whitehead races down the wing, he passes to Ronnie Cooke who scores in the corner for the first TRY!
9.00: Demetri Catrakillis adds the conversion.
13.00: The Southern Kings win a line out and Shaun Venter sells a dummy and cuts through the Rebels defence and runs straight for the line. TRY!
14.00: Catrakilis adds the conversion.
18.00: The Rebels work the ball down to the Kings 22m line but as they apply pressure the Kings give away a penalty. They will kick for posts.
20.00: James O’Connor takes the kick but he misses.
23.00: The Rebels have the ball in the Kings 22. They are going through the phases. After 8 phases they get to about 5m out and they win a penalty.  They take the quick tap and Ged Robinson goes over for the first Rebels TRY!
26.00: James O’Connor adds the conversion.
29.00: The Kings try a grubber behind the Rebels in the try zone but Cooper Vuna gets back and dots the ball down.
30.00: The Rebels break out of their 22 and runs the ball up to the Kings 22. Just before they get there the Kings concede a penalty so O’Connor will kick for posts.
31.00: O’Connor takes the kick and this one he nails.
33.00:Penalty to the Southern Kings. Catrakilis takes the shot and he too nails it.
35.00: Rebels are dominating the Territory stats at 72%. They have the ball in the Kings 22. They go through a couple of phases but O’Connor loses control of the ball.
38.00: The Rebels back themselves in the Kings 22. They stretch the defence and Angus Roberts goes over for the TRY in the corner.
39.00: James O’Connor takes the conversion from the touchline. He nails it. The scores are level.
40.00: The siren sounds and the Kings lose the ball forward. It’s half time.

The Southern Kings kick off and we are underway.
42.00: Penalty to the Rebels after the Kings were on attack. The Rebels kick for touch. They win the line out and attack.
45.00: Penalty to the Rebels. James O’Connor takes the kick and slots it. The Rebels are in the lead for the first time.
50.00: The Rebels are playing all the rugby. James O’Connor enjoys a break and gets around Sergeal Petersen but eventually he is caught. The Kings are relying more on their defence.
52.00: Sergeal Petersen comes off and is replaced by Marcello Sampson. The Rebels are in the Kings 22. Caderyn Neville goes for the line and Mitch Inman gets the ball over in the corner. The TMO checks the grounding and the try is awarded. That’s Inman’s first Super Rugby try (after 39 matches).
53.00: James O’Connor takes the conversion kick from the touchline. He nails it. Great kick.
