Hurricanes move Barrett to fullback for Blues

The Hurricanes have named Samoan International first five-eighth Tusi Pisi to get his first start of the season when the team faces the Blues at Eden Park on Saturday.

Ben Franks has been bracketed at loosehead prop after missing last week’s game due to a lower back strain.

The only other change to the starting fifteen is as mentioned above, with the introduction of Pisi at first-five eighth and Beauden Barrett to fullback.

On the bench, Dane Coles has been bracketed with Ash Dixon for the reserve hooker jersey.

Assistant Coach, Alama Ieremia explained the change to the backline. “Tusi offers another style of attack with his versatility as a 10, 12 and 15 for us this weekend.”

“Beauden is experienced at fullback and having him in this position gives us another option. He has moved between first five and fullback this season when the bench has been introduced, so it is an opportunity to give those combinations more game time,” said Ieremia.

The Hurricanes have already played the Blues this season and the Blues won the match 20-34 in Wellington.

Victor Vito (calf), Jeremy Thrush (ankle) and Blade Thomson (ankle) were all unavailable for selection this week.
