Blues beat Highlanders in Auckland

Out of the the last eight Super Rugby matches between the Blues and the Highlanders the Blues have won six and the Highlanders two.

Match detail

We are waiting for the kick off. The teams are on the field.
 
Colin Slade kicks off and we are underway.
 
1.00: Penalty to the Highlanders in front of the posts after a good period of attack.
 
2.00: Colin Slade takes the kick and slots it. The Highlanders lead.
 
4.00: Another penalty for the Highlanders after a scrum for engaging too early. They kick for touch.
 
6.00: Frank Halai puts in a big tackle on Ben Smith but the Blues are caught offside so the Highlanders have a penalty. Colin Slade takes the kick but it’s bad. The Blues look to run the ball.
 
8.00: So far the whole match has been the Highlanders driving forward. They get the Blues on the backfoot and then Ben Smith goes over for the Highlanders. TRY!
 
9.00: Slade takes the conversion and slots it.
 
13.00: The Blues get some good attacking territory with a rare visit to the Highlanders half. The Highlanders however turn the ball over and attack by going through the phases.
 
15.00: After a short period of possession for the Highlanders the Blues turn the ball over and start to work it towards the Highlanders tryline. They get  into the Highlanders 25 and then they win a penalty for offside.
 
17.00: Chris Noakes takes the penalty kick and misses. No change in the scores.
 
18.00: Ma’a Nonu shoulder charges Piri Weepu and he goes down. Steve Walsh takes a bit of time before stopping the game but Nonu gets away with a warning. Should have been a yellow. The Blues get a penalty. No wait, he changes his mind after seeing it on the screen and Nonu gets a yellow card. The Blues kick for touch and the line out.
 
19.00: The Blues win the line out and after the breakdown they stretch the Highlanders and  Steven Luatua races for the corner and scores. TRY!
 
20.00: Noakes misses the conversion.
 
22.00: The Highlanders attack is ferocious and they get the ball to about 2m short. However everyone intially missed that there was a foot in touch as there was so much speed. We go back for the line out.
 
26.00: Penalty to the Blues inside their half. They go for the line out. They win the line out and use the pick and go and get to 5m out.
 
27.00: The Blues get stopped short of the line and then Luatua almost gets over but we go back for a penalty and this time Angus Ta’avao bashes over for the try!
 
28.00: Chris Noakes adds the conversion.
 
31.00: All of the momentum is now with the Blues. Nonu is back on but the Blues have the ball and are on the attack.
 
32.00: The Highlanders turn the ball over and Ben Smith goes over for his second TRY. However we go upstairs to check if there was a forward pass. Walsh gives Andrew Hore a real talking to. The try is not awarded and the Blues have a 5m defensive scrum.
 
34.00: Jason Emery comes off for the Highlanders and Phil Burleigh comes on (injury). There is a break in play for Jackson Willison.
 
35.00: Penalty to the Highlanders after a short break and grubber by Nonu. Slade will take the kick.
 
36.00: Slade takes the kick and slots it giving the lead back to the Highlanders.
 
39.00: The Blues make a mess of a line out handing possession to the Highlanders in the Highlanders half. They knock on but the siren goes so it’s half time.
