Chiefs beat Highlanders in Hamilton

Out of the last five matches between the Chiefs and the Highlanders the Chiefs have won three and the Highlanders two.

We are waiting for the kick off.
Aaron Cruden kicks off and we are underway.
1.00:The Chiefs look to play the game at pace early on. The Highlanders have a line out but it’s messy and the Chiefs are awarded a penalty.
2.00: Gareth Anscombe takes the kick and nails it.
3.00: The Highlanders win a penalty so Colin Slade gets to kick for posts. He hits the right hand post and bounces out. The ball remains in play and the Chiefs attack.
7.00: The Highlanders are on attack but the ball goes to ground and Chiefs back Tim Nanai-Williams gathers a loose ball and races away to score the first try. We go upstairs to check if all is OK. The try is awarded.
8.00: Gareth Anscombe takes the conversion kick and nails it.
11.00:Penalty to the Highlanders. Colin Slade takes the kick and misses his second shot.
12.00: Kade Poki makes a break and passes to Elliot Dixon who makes plenty of ground but is tackled short of the line and can’t get the pass away.
14.00: The Highlanders get the ball to the Chiefs line and Jarrad Hoeata comes within an inch of scoring but he is stopped short.
18.00: All of the possession and territory stats favour the Highlanders. They are on attack in the Chiefs 22. They drive over the line but are held up. After a 5m scrum Aaron Smith snipes for the line and scores. TRY!
20.00: Colin Slade adds the conversion.
22.00: Highlanders work the ball straight back into the Chiefs half after the kick off. The Chiefs turn the ball over and are on attack but then Jarrad Hoeata takes Aaron Cruden high so he is shown a yellow card. The Chiefs kick for touch.
24.00: Penalty to the Chiefs. Anscombe takes the kick and nails it.
28.00: Now that the Highlanders are down to 14 men the Chiefs are enjoying more ball and territory. However they concede a penalty but its well inside the Highlanders half so they kick for touch.
31.00: Another penalty to the Highlanders. They run the ball this time.
34.00; The Chiefs are on attack, Aaron Cruden makes a break but some desperate defence from Ma’a Nonu stops him.
36.00: Both teams are trying to find a hole but the defence is good from both sides.
40.00: The siren goes for half time.

The Highlanders kick off for the second half and we are underway.
41.00: The Highlanders win an early penalty but Colin Slade misses again.
45.00: The Highlanders almost get through the Chiefs defence but Colin Slade is ruled offside. Gareth Anscombe takes the resulting penalty kick for posts but misses – to the right.
48.00: The Chiefs are attacking in the Highlanders half but they can’t get through. Richard Kahui comes on for the first time this year.
52.00: Penalty to the Chiefs. Anscombe takes the kick from the half way line but misses.
55.00: Andrew Horrell goes for the line and comes close to scoring a try but the TMO replay shows he is short and lost the ball forward.
59.00: Chiefs on attack in the Highlanders 22. They keep the ball moving through the phases but they can’t get through. The Chiefs are then awarded a penalty.
