Southern Kings suffer their first injury blow

The Southern Kings have suffered their first injury blow for the Super Rugby season as Hannes Franklin injured his knee in practice last week.

Southern Kings Director of Rugby Alan Solomons has already called up Conraad Johannes (Boetie) Britz to stand in for Franklin.

Britz was part of the Southern Kings larger training squad last season before the end of year break up.

Solomons said that Franklin would have surgery on Thursday in order to have torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee reattached.

Twenty-five-year-old Britz started his playing career with SWD Eagles at the Craven Week and in 2005 made the South African schools team.

Britz represented South Africa at Under-19 in the 2006 World Championships and also played for Western Province Under 19, Under 21 and Vodacom Cup level between 2007 and 2009.

In 2009 and 2010, he played for Maties in the Varsity Cup and then joined the Eastern Province Kings for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
