Gloucester win Challenge Cup derby with Exiles

Gloucester secured an away Amlin Challenge Cup victory in Pool 1 over Premiership rivals London Irish at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.


London Irish got off to a good start with a try by Sailosi Tagicakibau in the second minute which Ian Humphreys converted.


The visitors got onto the scoreboard in the fifth minute with a penalty by new England cap Freddie Burns.


London Irish were still in control of the match at half time and were leading 10-6.


The hosts extended their lead to 22-9 with two quick second half tries by Halani Aulika and then Anthony Watson.


Dan Murphy got Gloucester back in the match with a try in the 55th minute.


Four minutes later Bryn Evans was yellow carded and using the numbers to their advantage Gloucester scored their second try through Burns and his conversion put the visitors one point ahead.


Burns added two more penalties before the final whistle to take his total points tally to 24.
