Kearney confident of fitness for November Tests

Ireland fullback Rob Kearney believes he will be fit for the November internationals, despite having only played 32 minutes of rugby so far this season.

The 26-year-old recently suffered a back injury against Connacht, ahead of Ireland’s squad announcement on Wednesday, but will however have a fitness test on Thursday. Medical staff will assess whether he has recovered enough to run out for Leinster against the Cardiff Blues this weekend.

While a return against the Ospreys in a fortnight seems more likely, Kearney remains confident that he will be ready to face the Springboks with Ireland in mid-November.

“In an ideal world, you would like to get a couple of games under your belt, but I’m not going to be too fazed by it,” he told the Irish Independent.

“I came back into an international before the World Cup after being out for nine months and it went okay, so it is something I have done before.”
