British & Irish Lions coach Gatland to have surgery

Wales coach Warren Gatland is the favourite to lead the Lions

British & Irish Lions Head Coach, Warren Gatland, is to undergo a minor operation later this week in the UK in order to help him recover from a foot injury.

Gatland fell from a ladder earlier this year whilst working on his Waikato home in New Zealand and will have an elective procedure as part of his ongoing rehabilitation programme

The operation to his right heel, which was broken in his much documented accident, will see Warren enter hospital on Friday.

The procedure will entail treatment to an area of damaged and blistered skin.

It is expected he will spend a few days in hospital after the procedure.
