Top14 Rugby Club owner slams Toulon fans

Top 14 leaders Toulon’s fiery owner Mourad Boudjellal slammed a section of his side’s supporters on Saturday saying they were ‘cretins’ for booing a singer he had invited to sing prior to their game.

The 52-year-old – who has bankrolled the team through the millions made from his comic book empire – had just watched his team thrash Castres 33-12 to make it six wins from six games.

However, he was furious with the supporters, who had booed the Zaire-born rap singer Youssoupha.

“I am proud of the players but I am not proud of a section of the public here at the Mayol Stadium, of these cretins who thought it was a good idea to boo someone who had come to tell them that he loved them,” said Boudjellal.

“When one jeers someone who says they love you, you are a cretin, even a bastard.

“I would like those who booed today to remember that it was I who introduced the Coupo Santo (the club anthem). I would advise those people to read books, that they travel, that they open their eyes to other cultures.”
