Seven changes for Western Province

Western Province coach Allister Coetzee has named his team for Saturday’s Currie Cup clash against the Griquas at Newlands.

Coetzee has made seven changes to the starting XV from last week.

In the backline, Joe Pietersen returns and will wear his regular fullback jersey, with Gio Aplon switching to the left-wing. Louis Schreuder will start at scrumhalf, with Nic Groom dropping down to the bench after starting two matches in a row.

Up front, Springbok squad member Frans Malherbe returns at tighthead in a double front row change. Steven Kitshoff also starts as the experienced duo of Brok Harris and Deon Carstens provide cover off the bench.

Elsewhere in the pack, Don Armand shifts from lock to flank to cover for the suspended Tyrone Holmes, meaning that Western Province Under-21 captain Wilhelm van der Sluys will earn his first-ever Currie Cup start at lock.

On the bench, Gary van Aswegen comes in for Kurt Coleman, who has a broken jaw, and loose forward JJ Gagiano, a 2011 Rugby World Cup representative for the USA Eagles, provides cover too.
