Western Province pay heavy price for Sharks loss

Western Province Currie Cup coach Allister Coetzee says that Prop Steven Kitshof and No.8 Duane Vermeulen will both be back for this weekend’s Currie Cup match against Griquas.

Prop Steven Kitshof (knee) will definitely be back for this week after missing the Sharks match while No.8 Duane Vermeulen who also had a knee injury will also be back this week, having not played since April.

Coetzee said that Flank Rynhardt Elstadt will have his groin re-assessed on Monday after missing the Sharks match.

Province lost 23-25 to the Sharks but the injury cost the team a lot more than a home defeat as Coetzee also reveald that prop Deon Carstens would miss at least two weeks due to a broken nose.

Flyhalf Burton Francis injured his knee and even though he will see a specialist he will miss this week’s match.

Fullback Joe Pietersen will also miss the Griquas match after he injured his wrist.
