Blue Bulls kick off Currie Cup with Griquas victory

The Blue Bulls kicked off their Currie Cup campaign for this season with a 35-20 victory over Griquas at Loftus Versfeld on Friday.

Both the Blue Bulls and the Griquas scored two tries each but Louis Fouche kicked two conversions and seven penalties for the Blue Bulls which made the difference.

The Bulls appeared to be in control during the first half until Griquas struck back with a brilliant try with Martin Muller dotting down to put the visitors ahead 9-13 at half time.

However the visiting Griquas lost Willie le Roux to the sin bin for a tip tackle on Jurgen Visser and then in the second half they could not sustain their performanceand the Bulls, despite their inexperienced side, ensured the victory.

It was clear that even without their star players doing duty with the national squad, the Bulls had gelled well enough to be a factor in the competition.

Griquas, on the other hand, have some work to despite team with substantial potential.
