Bulls pay dear price for win

The Bulls paid a dear price for their impressive 40-19 Super 14 win over the Blues in Pretoria on Friday, with two key players suffering injuries.

The team’s medical staff confirmed on Saturday that Man of the Match and ace scrum-half Fourie du Preez suffered a right shoulder ligament injury.

It is suspected that it might be a great one tear and he is listed as “doubtful” for the team’s final game in the league stages – against the Reds at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria, next Saturday.

Powerful centre JP Nel, another key component in the Bulls’ ever improving backline, suffered a quad and muscle injury on his right leg. He is listed as “definitely doubtful” for the encounter with Reds.

The two players will undergo further medical evaluations on Monday to determine the exact extent of their injuries.

Coach Heyneke Meyer made it clear he will not risk either player, with the play-offs still looming.

“We will not risk to play either of the players against the Reds if they are not 100 percent fit,” Meyer said.

The Bulls coach denied they will be taking the bottom-placed Reds lightly or field an understrength team.

“We certainly don’t underestimate our opponents. They beat us last year and we really have respect for them,” Meyer said.
