Henson pulls out of Canada match

Parker steps into the breach

Wales star Gavin Henson has been ruled out of Friday’s clash with Canada at the Millennium Stadium after losing his battle with an infected toe.

The Ospreys playmaker failed to finish Thursday’s captain’s run and was withdrawn from the team as a precaution after undergoing a morning fitness test.

The Wales medics expect him to be available for next Saturday’s Test against New Zealand.

Sonny Parker was promoted from the bench to start at inside-centre, with Lee Byrne included amongst the replacements.

Despite the late distraction, Wales head coach Gareth Jenkins was still able to send out a powerful side to tackle the Canadians.

In the absence of Stephen Jones, James Hook started at fly-half for the first time and Gareth Thomas captained the side from full-back.
