Cheetahs’ Ferreira cited for dangerous tackle

Cheetahs lock Andries Ferreira has been cited for alleged foul play through a dangerous tackle on the Force’s Matt Hodgson during the Cheetahs Super Rugby victory over the Force.

Ferreira is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling. A player must not tackle an opponent dangerously.A tackle around the neck or head of an opponent is dangerous play, when he entered a breakdown to contest for the ball and bound onto Force player Matt Hodgson around the neck.

Ferreira then drove forward through the breakdown and flung Hodgson to the ground so he contacted the ground with his head, neck and shoulder.

The incident occurred in the 76th minute of the match between the Cheetahs and Force at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on 5th May.

Upon further review of the match footage the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the Red Card threshold for foul play

The Citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR Duty Judicial Officer Mike Heron.
