Top 14 Rugby club Brive sign Former Fijian captain

Former Fijian rugby captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu signed for Top 14 side Brive on Wednesday from New Zealand outfit the Chiefs in Hamilton.

The 26-year-old flanker – who captained Fiji at the 2010 Pacific Nations Cup and was a member of the Fijian side at last year’s World Cup – signed a two year contract and will join even if Brive are relegated.

Waqaniburotu – capped 10 times – had a modest World Cup and ended with a three-week ban for a dangerous tackle on South African fullback Patrick Lambie in their 49-3 pool thrashing.

Brive are involved in a battle for the second and last relegation spot and are presently third from bottom above Bayonne only on better points difference with just two games remaining.

Lyon were relegated last weekend.
