Highlanders praise Stormers for their defence

Highlanders captain Jamie Mackintosh has praised the Stormers as a team and for their defence as they kept the Highlanders tryless.

The Stormers scored two tries in the match whilst keeping the Highlanders from crossing their tryline in their first ever visit to the new indoor Foryth Barr Stadium.

“They’re a great defensive team,” Highlanders captain Jamie Mackintosh said after the 6-21 loss.

“I suppose we went into the game wanting to kick a little bit more and get field position.”

“Full credit to them. They’ve had a hard week of travel and to come to Dunedin and get a result like that, they’re bloody good.”

Stormers captain Jean De Villers was pleased with the result but admitted that luck had played a part in their victory.

“We’re pleased with the win. It definitely wasn’t easy,” said de Villiers.

“It was against a quality side. We were probably a bit lucky with some tries in the first half but we’ll definitely take the win.

“The bounce of the ball went our way today. We’ve got a hell of a tough tour. “

“The match tonight was incredibly hard and tough and it doesn’t get any easier next week against the Crusaders.”
