Crusaders beat Cheetahs in Christchurch

The extraordinary fact about this is that will be the first Super Rugby match played in Christchurch since May 2010 and that was in the Super 14.

We are waiting for the kick off.

 

Excellent atmosphere in Christchurch folks already. The Crusaders horsemen are already on the field. Hearing the old Crusaders entry music (Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis) brings back some great memories. The Cheetahs are coming out on to the field. The Crusaders are coming on to the field – “The crowd goes wild”. We now have a moments silence for Jock Hobbs.

 

0.01: Johan Goosen kicks off and we are underway.

 

1.00: The Crusaders knock on after the kick off so the Cheetahs have a scrum in the Crusaders 25.

 

2.00: Penalty to the Crusaders in the first scrum as the Cheetahs front row collapsed. The Cusaders clear the ball.

 

4.00: Both teams giving the ball some air as they test out each other’s defence.

 

5.00: Penalty to the Crusaders for offside (Brussouw) after a long advantage. The Cheetahs look like they are up for this one.

 

6.00: Tom Taylor will take the kick from 47 m out. He hits the post but it goes in.

 

10.00: Crusaders win the second scrum and move the ball quickly out to the wing. Dagg and Guildford show their pace but the Cheetahs defend, turn the ball over and attack. The Crusaders then do the same but they concede a penalty in the Cheetahs 25.

 

12.00: Cheetahs are playing well. They set up a 5m attacking line out. They set up a maul and drive for the line. The Crusaders however turn the ball over and clear.

 

15.00: Cheetahs set up another maul on the 5m line. They get a penalty as the Crusaders are caught offside. Goosen takes the kick and nails it. The scores are level.

 

19.00: Corey Flynn shows some pace as he breakes down the wing after a cross kick but he is tackled into touch.

 

21.00: Penalty to the Crusaders (offside). Taylor will kick for posts.

 

22.00: Taylor takes the kick and the wind catches it and blows it off.

 

26.00: Another penalty for the Crusaders. They kick for touch to set up a line out. The line out is not straight so the Cheetahs have a scrum.

 

29.00: Crusaders have the ball in the Cheetahs 25. They are on attack but they are called back for a penalty (collapsing the maul). Tom Taylor will kick for posts.

 

30.00: Taylor takes the kick and nails it. Crusaders lead again.

 

33.00: Tewus de Buyn makes a break for the Cheetahs but the Crusaders catch him.

 

37.00: Guildford makes a break and has support. After some good Crusaders hands from Fruean and Dagg, Sean Maitland gets through and scores in the corner. TRY!!

 

38.00: Tom Taylor takes the conversion but misses.

 

39.00: Crusaders attacking again. They get to about 8m out and concede a penalty for hands in the ruck. The Cheetahs boot to the line and clear.

 

The siren sounds for half time. It is half time.

 

The half time score was Crusaders 11 Cheetahs 3

 

The second half is underway.

 

41.00: It looks like Dan Carter is on for the second half but we have a break in play as Israel Dagg is injured.
