Jantjies set to miss a month of Super Rugby

The Lions have suffered a blow with the news that fly half Elton Jantjies could miss the next month of Super Rugby due to injury.

Jantjies missed the Lions match against the Sharks on the weekend with a foot injury and the severity of the injury has now been revealed.

Another blow for the Lions is the news that centre Alwyn Hollenbach who left the field in the Sharks match with a hamstring injury and could be out for up to three weeks according to Beeld.

One positive for the Lions is that they have the bye this weekend so the injuries won’t impact on the team this week.

Injuries had already started to hurt the Lions before last week’s match as prop Pat Cilliers had to pull out of the match with a stomach bug.

Losing Cilliers was a blow as they had already lost JC Janse van Rensburg for up to six weeks and CJ van der Linde for three to four weeks.

While young prop Caylib Oosthuizen coped with the Sharks match the Lions depth wll be severely tested in the coming weeks especially in the front row as after the bye the Lions face the Stormers (home), Crusaders (home), Cheetahs (away) and Bulls (home).

The Lions have a number of other players on the injury list including, Loose forward/lock Wikus van Heerden (concussion), hooker Bandise Maku (shoulder), centre Dylan des Fountain (knee), lock Michael Rhodes (knee) and wing Lionel Mapoe (hamstring).
