Brumbies beat Cheetahs in Canberra

Super Rugby matches between the Brumbies and Cheetahs are generally high scoring affairs compared to some of the other games in the tournament.

We are waiting for the kick-off.


1.00: Johan Goosen kicks off for the visitors and the match is underway in Canberra.


2.00: The Cheetahs are awarded a penalty early on and Goosen prepares to take the kick.


3.00: The kick is on target and the Cheetahs take the lead.


4.00: Pat McCabe makes a decent break for the Brumbies and they begin to build phases in the Cheetahs’ half. A penalty is, however, awarded to the visitors and the Brumbies lose momentum. Goosen kicks for touch.


6.00: There is quick play from the Cheetahs off the back of a scrum and they are beginning to work through phases in the Brumbies’ half. Goosen attempts a drop goal which goes horribly wide.


8.00: Nic White makes a brilliant run for the Brumbies and the home side is on the board through a try by Henry Speight.


9.00: Christian Lealiifano bangs over the conversion and the Brumbies increase their lead.


12.00: Basic handling errors are costing the Cheetahs and the Brumbies begin to capitalise in the visitors’ half.


15.00: The Brumbies work through several phases in the Cheetahs’ half but the Free State side get a turnover and Goosen hammers the ball into touch.


17.00: Willie le Roux scores a brilliant try off the back of the lineout for the Cheetahs. Goosen’s conversion puts them in front once again.


21.00: The Brumbies are penalised in the scrum and Goosen kicks for touch. The Cheetahs put the home side under pressure in a lineout which is 6m out from the try line.


24.00: The Cheetahs have been impressive at the set pieces and they continue to put pressure on the Brumbies before spilling the ball 5m out.


27.00: The Brumbies gain momentum off the back of a scrum but the Cheetahs are safe as they win a turnover within their own 22.


32.00: The Cheetahs work magic off the back of the lineout as Ashley Johnson powers through the Brumbies’ defence. An off-load is, however, ruled forward and the Brumbies will get a scrum close to half way.


35.00: The Cheetahs are penalised for going off their feet and Lealiifano will have a shot at goal.


37.00: Lealiifano’s kick sails over and the scores are even in Canberra.


38.00: The Brumbies knock-on and the Cheetahs will get a chance just before half time as they are awarded a scrum within the home side’s 22.


39.00: The Brumbies are penalised and Goosen will line up a kick at goal just before the hooter sounds.


40.00: The kick is on target and the Cheetahs take the lead.


The half time score is Brumbies 10 Cheetahs 13.


40.00: The second half is under way.


41.00: Magic from Tewis de Bruyn sees a Cheetahs try early on and Goosen prepares to take the conversion.


42.00: The kick is on target and the visitors extend their lead.


45.00: The Cheetahs are upping the ante and putting the home side under serious pressure in their own half. They are awarded a penalty right in front of the posts and Goosen prepares to take the kick.


47.00: Goosen bangs over the kick and the visitors lead by 13.
