Bulls sweating on several injuries for Blues clash

The Bulls are sweating on a number of injury niggles after their 19-51 hammering of the Cheetahs ahead of their third round Super Rugby clash against the Blues.

Lock Flip van der Merwe will sit out of two team training sessions this week after he suffered an ankle ligament strain against the Cheetahs.

Team doctor Org Strauss is hoping that allowing Van der Merwe to train lightly this will give his ligament enough time to recover so that he can play against the Blues.

Last week’s try scorer Dean Greyling has an elbow injury and Deon Stegmann has a hamstring concern so both will only resume training later in the week.

Bulls captain Pierre Spies has a deep cut in his eye which will prevent him from training until later in the week.

Former Stormers back Johann Sadie is only expected to recover from his shoulder injury in two weeks and the same time frame has been given for Arno Botha’s back injury.

Also sitting out of training this week so far are Wilhelm Steenkamp and Frik Kirsten due to flu.
