Welsh trio extend with Sale Sharks

Aviva Premiership Rugby Club Sale Sharks have secured a triple crown of their own in the contract extension of three Welsh men – Dwayne Peel, Marc Jones and Nick Macleod.

Thirty-year-old Peel joined the Sharks from Llanelli Scarlets in 2008 and continues to be an instrumental player at the club. The scrum half has been capped 76 times by Wales, and represented the British & Irish Lions on three occasions. Dwayne has signed for a further two seasons.

Dwayne said, “I’m delighted to extend my contract. I’m having a good time here. Exciting times lie ahead and I’ll be glad to be part of it.”

Macleod (28) also joined in 2008 and made his debut against his former club Cardiff Blues in October of that year. He has made the number 10 shirt his own this season, is the club’s leading goal kicker and has amassed 231 points already with nine games to play. Nick has also added two seasons to his contract.

Nick said, “It’s fantastic news for me: I’m extremely happy to extend my contract. This season has seen a real turnaround, and has rekindled my enthusiasm. We’ve shown glimpses of what we can do, and things can only get better!”

Jones is still only 24, despite being in his seventh season at the club. He’s added a further year to his contract. Marc said, “Sharks are definitely a club going in the right direction, something I want to be part of. With some big signings coming in, there’s only one way this club’s going. I’m looking forward to working with Richie Gray at the lineout, and it’ll be great to have Eifion next to me again in the front row.”

Sharks’ Chief Executive Steve Diamond added, “When I came back twelve months ago, I didn’t know Dwayne, Nick or Marc. I soon got to know them, and they’re all awesome players who fit into the squad fantastically well. I’m really glad they’ve agreed to extend.”

The Welsh threesome all featured in Sharks’ impressive win against Scarlets last Saturday, and are now focusing on Friday’s vital Aviva Premiership encounter against Worcester Warriors at Edgeley Park (Kick Off 8.00 p.m.).
