USA Eagles coach Eddie O’Sullivan resigns

Former Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan has resigned as coach of the USA Eagles coach in order to pursue opportunities closer to home.

O’Sullivan was in charge of the Eagles for two and a half years having taken over from Scott Johnson in 2009 but says that the time has come for him to move on.

Under O’Sullivan the Eagles qualified for the Rugby World Cup and then at the world cup beat Russia.

Under O’Sullivan the Eagles managed to beat Russia at the World Cup in New Zealand but it is the performance against Ireland that the Corkman is most proud of.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my two-and-a-half years as head coach to the USA Eagles, it has been a rewarding journey working with all the players and staff,” he said.

“I was delighted with our progress and overall performances in the Rugby World Cup but feel that it is now time for me to consider other options closer to home.

“The win over Russia and the performance against Ireland on 9/11 was particularly special. “

“I would like to wish USA Rugby every success in the future.”
