Wasps hammer Bordeaux-Begles in Challenge Cup

London Wasps opened their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign in Pool 3 with a 47-14 hammering of Bordeaux-Begles at Stade Andre Moga.

The highlight of the match was Wasps winger Christian Wade’s hat-trick of tries.

Former Heineken Cup and Amlin Challenge Cup Champions London Wasps got their
2011/12 campaign off to a flying start, scoring 6 tries in the match.

Christian Wade helped himself to a hat-trick inside the first 24 minutes as
they raced into an early lead at Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Wade scored his first try after only a minute. Nicky Robinson missed the conversion
but made up for it with a penalty eight minutes later.

Felix Le Bourhis grabbed a try back for the hosts but after that it was one-way
traffic until the break with Wade adding two more tries and replacement Dom
Waldouck also scoring.

Two sin-bins, one either side of the break hurt the visitors and Bordeaux made
them pay with Thierry Brana scoring early in the second half.

Normal service was resumed for Dai Young’s side on 55 minutes with Tom Varndell
going over for Wasps’ fifth score.

Robinson kicked two more penalties to stretch Wasps lead and then Nic Berry
had the final word with a try just before the full-time whistle.
