London Wasps feel stung by Simon Shaw

Aviva Premiership Rugby club London Wasps say that they are “very disappointed” that England lock Simon Shaw has decided to leave the club after he signed a contract with them.

The club revealed that Shaw signed an extension to his contract before he left to play for England at the Rugby World cup but asked that it be kept quiet.

Wasps said that Shaw requested that the club did not announce this at the time for personal reasons and that they were happy to comply with his request.

However according to a Wasps statement three months later now that Shaw has returned from the Rugby world cup “he informed the club last week that he wanted to end his career overseas.”

Shaw was listed in the run up to and including during the Rugby World cup as being “unattached” which could have sparked interest from several clubs.

The big lock has been linked as a temporary replacement for the injured Springbok second rower Bakkies Botha at Toulon but no official word has been released.

Wasps said in a statement that ,”The club is very disappointed with this news and await an official approach for the player.”
