Dragons vs Bath Anglo Welsh LV=Cup preview

Prop, Charlie Beech, lock, Will Spencer and wing, Olly Woodburn will make their first starts for Bath Rugby tomorrow as the team run out at Rodney Parade against Newport Gwent Dragons in the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup.

It will also be Spencer and Woodburn?s first competitive appearance for the Club. There could also be first appearances from academy hooker, Will Tanner, and Samoan prop, Anthony Perenise, who have both been named on the bench.

Flanker, Andy Beattie, will captain the side, and is joined in the back row by Guy Mercer and Simon Taylor. Dave Attwood teams up with Spencer in the engine room, with Beech scrumming down alongside Ross Batty and Mark Lilley.

Fly-half Tom Heathcote partners Mark McMillan in the half backs, and Tom Biggs is selected on the opposite wing to Woodburn. Matt Banahan returns from the World Cup to make his first appearance of the season at inside centre. It will also be Banahan’s 100th appearance for the Club. Matt Carraro starts outside him, and Jack Cuthbert completes the line-up at full back.

Joe Bedford will captain the Dragons side from scrum half which sees Dragons debuts for Bedwas lock Royce Cadman and Academy/Cross Keys wing Luke Williams.

“There are quite a few new faces on the teamsheet,” said Dragons Head Coach Darren Edwards. “Several of our development and academy players will be out on the park as well as representatives from our Premiership sides.

“Over the next 2 weeks, not only do our fringe players get the opportunity to challenge for a first team place, it also gives our coaching team the opportunity to challenge themselves and give the players new perspectives.

“Danny (Wilson) will Head Coach the team, Rob Appleyard will focus on the defence and Shaun will lead the attack and backs.”
