Blue Bulls looking to end Currie Cup on a high

Springbok World Cup player Zane Kirchner has been included in the Blue Bulls Currie Cup team to play the Leopards on Friday night at Loftus Versfeld, although he has not trained with the team yet.

Coach Pine Pienaar said during Tuesday’s team announcement for the clash on Friday that Kirchner has not arrived back from New Zealand, but would fit into the game plan with ease as he was involved with the Blue Bulls team as recently as two weeks ago.

“He did not train with us yet, but should slot in without problems. If he does not make it back in time, Jurgen Visser will start, as he has recovered from his broken nose and is good to go,” Pienaar said.

“We have no option but to chase the game. We need to score four tries and that will dictate the way we play. After that we still need to wait for other results. We have no option but to play as if it is our last game of the year and wanting to go out on a high, we need to produce a special performance,” Pienaar said.

The Blue Bulls team is:

Zane Kirchner/Jurgen Visser, Akona Ndungane, Wynand Olivier, Francois Venter, Bjorn Basson, Louis Fouche, Jano Vermaak, CJ Stander, Jacques Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, Juandre Kruger, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha (c), Dean Greyling.

Replacements: Willie Wepener, Frik Kirsten, Gerrit-Jan van Velze, Arno Botha, Justin Dinka, Francois Brummer, Jurgen Visser/Gerhard van den Heever.
