American captain Clever cited for dangerous play

American Rugby captain Todd Clever has become the second rugby player to be cited at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Rugby World Cup officials have cited Clever for a dangerous tackle and a dangerous charge during the Eagles 13-6 win over Russia in a Pool C match on Thursday.

“The Team has been informed and the case will be heard by the Independent Judicial Officer His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett (England),” a statement said.

The hearing will take place in Auckland at a time and date to be confirmed.

England lock Courtney Lawes was the first player to be cited and was subsequently suspended for two matches.
