Mike Brown extends with Harlequins

Harlequins have announced that former England fullback Mike Brown has re-signed for Quins until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Solid under the high ball, strong in defence and a brilliant counter attacker, Mike Brown is the textbook full-back who shows real fire and passion on the pitch.

Mike has made over 150 appearances for Harlequins, scoring 50 tries. An impressive 2010/11 season saw him voted not only supporters’ player of the season but also players’ player of the season at Harlequins. Additionally, he was selected in the Aviva Premiership’s Dream XV, recognising his outstanding displays throughout the campaign.

Brown made his 1st XV debut during the 2005/06 season in the pre-season friendly against London Irish. After representing England Saxons in 2007, he went on to win two full caps on England’s tour of South Africa in May and June 2007. The following summer, he added a third cap when he started in England’s opening game against the All Blacks in New Zealand.

Last season, Brown was once again called into the England Saxons squad to play Italy A and Ireland A, scoring a try against Italy A. After making a major contribution to the Quins Amlin Cup winning side, he went on to help England Saxons retain the Churchill Cup over the summer of 2011.

Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea says,”Mike embodies everything a professional rugby player should be and everything we want of a player here at Harlequins. Mike is a competitor, who has a desire to succeed that is second to none. We are delighted that Mike has committed himself yet again to the club for effectively the next three seasons and look forward to helping him achieve his goals, both with Harlequins and England”

Mike Brown says,”I am excited to have re-signed to a club that I am so enjoying being a part of. I love playing rugby here with a squad that I have so much belief in. We have a talented, young side that are going in the right direction and want to win more trophies.

“I have played with many of the current squad now for a number of years and I consider many of them not only be team mates but good friends. We are lucky to have good support around us and fantastic training facilities.

“Having Conor O’Shea has been great for the club and I believe he can improve my game even more, and hopefully I can look to achieve more international honours in the future.”
