Eloff names Boland Currie Cup opening team

Open side flanker Milroy Isaacs will make his debut for the Boland Kavaliers when they take on the Border Bulldogs in their opening First League rugby match at Wellington on Saturday.

The selection of Isaacs comes as a surprise, but he had a good club season so far and impressed coach Loffie Eloff with his work-rate.

He is a talented player with a big heart and a lot of guts.

“Being selected for the Kavaliers is a dream come true. I’m ready to give it my all,” Isaacs said.

Boland strong man, Janro van Niekerk, who is back after an ankle injury, had a good training session on Tuesday, but is still not 100 percent ready.

In his absence Charl du Plessis will scrum at loosehead prop.Cornal Henricks also moves back to right wing with Braam Gerber and PJ Vermeulen controlling midfield.

Eloff is upbeat about the season ahead.

“Yes, I believe we could look forward to a very successful season.

“The players lately show a lot of confidence and that is exactly what I need from them.

“Right now previous results does not count anymore. Comes Saturday we start to deal with the real thing,” Eloff said.

The Boland team is:

Willie le Roux, Cornal Hendricks, PJ Vermeulen, Braam Gerber, Danwel Demas, Elgar Watts, Bolla Conradie, Junior Bester, Thor Halvorsen, Milroy Isaacs, Henjo van Niekerk, Ligtoring Landman, Eugene Butterworth, Clemen Lewis, Charl du Plessis.

Replacements: Chris Buckle, Peet Vorster, Grant le Roux, PJ van Zyl, Marnus Hugo, Jonathan Francke, Brandon April.
