Wales scrum-half Phillips joins Bayonne in Top14

Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has joined French Top 14 outfit Bayonne on a two year contract, the Basque side reported on Monday.

The 28-year-old, who has 42 caps with Wales and three with the British Lions, moves to France after a four year spell with Ospreys.

Phillips is the seventh new recruit at Bayonne after the arrival of France international Cedric Heymans and his compatriot Marvin O’Connor, All Blacks Joe Rokocoko and Neemia Tialata, former New Zealand international Sione Lauaki and Australian forward Mark Chisholm.

Phillips, named in Wales’s provisional 2011 World Cup squad, is set to join his new side after the September 9/October 23 showpiece.

Bayonne finished seventh in last season’s Top 14, just missing out on a place in the European Cup.
