Lions flank appeals six week ban for foul play

Lions flank Michael Rhodes has been granted an Appeal hearing by SANZAR on Tuesday 14 June, 2011 for his six week ban for foul play.

The hearing, chaired by Nigel Hampton QC of New Zealand, with Terry Willis (Australia) and Jannie Lubbe SC (South Africa) as members, will take place via tele-conference at 17h30 Sydney time (19h30 NZ/09h30 SA).

On May 31, a SANZAR Judicial Hearing, chaired by Nick Davidson QC, found Rhodes guilty of foul play and suspended him from all rugby until 31 July, 2011.

An appeal was lodged within SANZAR’s 48 hour limit but the scheduling of the hearing was delayed at the request of Rhodes and his representatives as the Lions were returning from their overseas tour.

The appeal will not challenge the finding that Rhodes committed an act of foul play but rather the length of the suspension that has been handed down to the player.
