French Top 14 Rugby Club Clermont signed South African centre Riaan Swanepoel on Wednesday on a short term contract seeing him through till just after this year’s World Cup.
The 25-year-old Natal Sharks back has been brought in to cover for the absences of club captain and France centre Aurelien Rougerie and Italian Gonzalo Canale, who are both set to be involved in the World Cup in New Zealand, which runs from September 9 to October 23.
Swanepoel is set to join up with the 2010 French champions – who lost to this season’s title winners Toulouse in the semi-finals – at a training camp on July 11 and stay till October 30.
