Loffreda to lead Pumas to France

Argentina Rugby Union (ARU) president Alejandro Risler has confirmed that Pumas coach Marcelo Loffreda would remain in his position for the Rugby World Cup, despite an alleged offer from Leicester Tigers.

The 47-year-old’s future has been unclear ever since he met with Leicester’s head of operations, Simon Cohen, to discuss a possible move.

Although he has yet to make a decision on whether to take the offer, Loffreda would not be able to join the Tigers as head coach until after the Rugby World Cup.

“We are working with Marcelo Loffreda to reach Paris in September,” Risler told the Ole newspaper.

“All our efforts are concentrated on getting Argentina to our best-ever World Cup position.

“I’m sure that the Leicester’s offer is in recognition of Loffreda’s work with the Pumas in the last eight years.

“We are going to think about his successor after the World Cup.”
