Italy coach Mallett not wanted after world cup

Italy coach Nick Mallett will not have his contract renewed when it expires after Italy’s participation in the Rugby World Cup in September and October.

Mallett was informed of the decision following a meeting of the Italian Rugby Federation’s (FIR) council on Saturday.

The South African took over from Pierre Berbizier following the 2007 World Cup and guided the team to six wins in 36 games.

Italy came back to beat France, 22-21, for the first time in this year’s Six Nations.

There were also two wins over Scotland and victories away to Argentina and at home to Fiji and Samoa.

Perpignan coach Jacques Brunel is expected to be named as his successor before the World Cup.
