Exeter sign Samoan international Tatupu

Samoa international centre Josh Tatupu has signed for Exeter on a two-year contract, the English Premiership club said Thursday.

Tatupu, who has been capped by Samoa in rugby union and rugby league, moves to Sandy Park from French club Castres.

He has also played in the Super Rugby tournament with Perth-based Western Force and New Zealand’s National Provincial Cup while at Otago.

Exeter boss Rob Baxter said: “We are really pleased to have Josh on board – he’s a guy we have been watching for quite a while now.

“He is a good age at 24, so it’s the right time for him to move here.

“He has got a lot of assets that modern backs need – he’s strong and very quick – and he has an interesting background, having played both rugby league and union.

“But now he has settled on the union path, and he has been putting in some very good performance for Castres. He can play centre or on the wing, so he kind of fits very nicely into what we have here.”
