Stormers beat Cheetahs in Cape Town

The Stormers historically have the meanest defence of the South African teams in Super Rugby, but they are at their meanest when play the Cheetahs.

We are waiting for the kick off.


The match is underway.


4.00: The Cheetahs show an early intent to run the ball but the Stormers suck up their attack until they knock on.


5.00: Brok Harris gives away a penalty at the scrum and the Cheetahs kick for touch with the penalty.


8.00: There is a break in play as Brok Harris gets some attention. There will be two more breaks as the temperatures is expected to reach over 35 so the two breaks will be for water.


10.00 Penalty to the Cheetahs. Naas Olivier will kick for posts. He kicks the ball but it fades to the right.


14.00: The Cheetahs are picking away at the Stormers and the host are doing their usual of sucking up the attack with that stubborn defence.


16.00: As the Cheetahs continue to attack they give away a penalty and the Stormers boot way downfield.


18.00: We have that break in play for a water break. Most male fans in the stadium are shirtless due to the heat.


21.00: The Cheetahs win a penalty so Naas Olivier takes the kick and he nails it scoring the first points of the match.


24.00: Penalty to the Stormers. Peter Grant takes the kick and levels the scores.


28.00: The Stormers start to attack but the Cheetahs give away a penalty. Peter Grant takes the kick and nails it.


34.00: Cheetahs get a penalty so Naas Olivier takes the shot at posts and he nails it.


38.00: Olivier tries to clear the ball in the Cheetahs 25 but gets charged down.


39.00: Lots of scrum resets but they seem to be settling down. The siren goes. The Stormers have the ball, they kick across field and Habana chases and he wins a penalty.


41.00: Peter Grant takes the penalty kick. He misses. Thats it half time.

The second half is underway.


41.00: The Cheetahs have come out to play for this half. They snipe and score in the corner! Or do they ? We go upstairs. No try. Francois Louw stopped Rayno Benjamin. 5m Line out though.


44.00: The Stormers snipe and put Habana away and as they go forward the Cheetahs give away a penalty. Peter Grant will kick for posts.


45.00: Grant takes the kick and this one is inch perfect through the middle. Stormers lead.


47.00: Benjamin and Habana chase the ball – they both have pace but the ball wins and rolls over the line.


49.00; The Stormers get another penalty so Grant has another penalty kick. Again he nails it.


50.00: Another penalty. This one is for the Cheetahs. Naas Olivier takes the kick and nails it.


53.00: Benjamin caught offside so we have another penalty. Grant takes the kick and nails it.


55.00: High tackle. Penalty to the Cheetahs. Olivier takes the kick and slots it.


60.00: There is a break in play as the players take on some water.


63.00: The Stormers set up a line out 5m out from the Cheetahs tryline. The Cheetahs win the ball and boot it out but the Stormers use the ball well and attack.
