Reds deny Jones is leaving

Queensland Rugby Chief Executive Ken Freer said today the report circulating from Australia that Reds coach Eddie Jones is facing the sack is untrue.

The story reported by the Sydney Morning Herald quoted an unnamed “source from QRU” as saying the Reds “have decided that Jones must go now”.

“This is mischievous and wrong,” Mr Freer said from Sydney, where he has been attending a meeting of rugby executives.

“There is no intention to sack Eddie. As our Chairman Peter Lewis said as recently as yesterday, Eddie has a three year contract with us and we want him to continue in the job. And I can’t say it any plainer than that.

“I will not comment further on this rumour.”
