Jones faces sack

It has been reported that Reds coach Eddie Jones must resign from his post immediately, or face the sack on Wednesday this week.

The former Wallaby coach is only half a season into his three year contract, but after only a single win from eight starts, the Reds are bottom of the Super 14 log.

”It is only a contract, they can give me notice or I could give them notice,” Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald.

”I will be making a decision in the next two weeks about which side I will be coaching next year.’

“If they [Reds] don’t want me I won’t be sticking around.”

Asked if he would wait until after the Reds’ next Super 14 game on April 7, Jones said, ”It might be sooner than that.”

However, Reds’ General Manager Alex Pope denied that Jones is definitely on his way out.

”We are happy with the input of Eddie. I think if there is anything to be discussed it will be fully discussed within the board before it becomes public.

”There is no official process underway.”

But in the light of Jones’ comments on Tuesday, it is likely that the coach’s future, or lack thereof, at the Reds will be decided upon this week.
