Mallett calls up Semenzato for Italy vs England

Italy have called up Treviso scrum-half Fabio Semenzato to replace his injured team-mate Edoardo Gori for their match against England in the Six Nations at Twickenham on Saturday.

Gori was forced off after a few minutes in the agonising 13-11 defeat to Ireland in the Azzurri’s tournament opener.

He suffered a dislocated shoulder and Italy team doctor Roberto Pozzoni said they would evaluate the injury over the next few days to decide whether or not he needs an operation.

“We spoke to Italy A coach Gianluca Guidi and decided to call up Fabio who has been first choice (for the A team) and played well against both England Saxons and Scotland A and is playing regularly in the Celtic League,” said Italy coach Nick Mallett.

Meanwhile, captain Sergio Parisse had stitches in his injured finger following the Ireland game but remains available for selection.
