Reds losing streak continues

This was a live match report.

Preview.

The Reds must be getting desperate. Well they should be. They haven’t won a game since their fortuitous (25-16) win over the Hurricanes in Round One.

Match Detail

Andrew Walker got the first points of the match with a penalty and then Stephen Donald equalled the scores a couple of minutes later.

The Chiefs were given a penalty in the Reds 25 and could have gone for posts but instead they opted for the lineout and it paid off as Kristian Ormsby went over for the try.

Stephen Donald then converted a difficult conversion from the almost the corner flag to put the Chiefs 7 points ahead.

Walker then slotted two penalties to close the gap a little for the Reds.

In the 29th minute Liam Messam of the Chiefs was sent to the bin for 10 minutes for a high tackle.

David Croft then broke free from a Mitch Chapman tackle on the Chiefs 25 metre line to score the Reds first try of the match. Walker then converted the try.

Messam came back on for the Chiefs seconds before the hooter sounded and a Chiefs knock forward ended the half.

The Half Time Score was Reds 16 Chiefs 10

The Chiefs Kristian Ormsby looked to have scored a try at the start of the second half. The ref went upstairs and confirmed it.

Stephen Donald’s conversion painfully hit the posts and the Reds still led the Chiefs albeit by one point.

Stephen Donald kicked the Chiefs into the lead in the 55th minute. Andrew Walker tried to put the Reds into the lead in the 67th minute with a penalty but the kick went away to the right.

Walker had another shot at the posts in the 73rd minute and this time he slotted it giving the Reds the lead.

Then with three minutes to go Stephen Donald kicked a penalty to put the Chiefs back into the lead.

As the seconds ticked away the Reds dominated posession and were awarded a scrum. The Scrum went down. The hooter went. Walker went for a drop goal but it was way off and the Reds lost the match.
