Ospreys too strong for Blues in LV= Cup

The Ospreys were too strong for Cardiff Blues as they came away from Cardiff City stadium with a 7-29 Anglo Welsh Cup victory on Saturday night.

The Ospreys fielded a depleted side due to the Six nations starting next week which meant that they could not select 13 of their players.

Cardiff Blues were in a similar situation but still sent over Gavin Evans early on and the Ospreys responded with a penalty try and a Morgan Allen scored a try.

The Ospreys lost lock Ian Evans and prop Cai Griffiths to the sin bin in the second half but the match was won after fly-half Matthew Morgan kicked four penalties and converted Hanno Dirksen’s try.

“It was a good exercise. We didn’t really execute, which was a bit disappointing, but we scored three good tries,” Ospreys coach Filo Tiatia told the BBC.

“And when we were down to 13 men, they showed a lot of character. A lot of young kids played tonight and I’m really proud of them.

“I think it’s a great competition in terms of development.

“There were a few players here tonight we hadn’t seen much of and they showed potential.

“It’s also a great opportunity for young coaches like myself.”
