Ireland’s eighth man Jamie Heaslip will miss his country’s Six Nations opening match against Italy due to injury.
Heaslip has been struggling with and ankle injury but could regain fitness in time to face France in the second week of Six Nations rugby.
Shane Horgan and John Hayes has also been ruled out for Ireland’s clash with Italy and they are also expected to miss the clash with France.
Horgan has a knee problem while Hayes is struggling with a groin injury.
Earlier in the week Ireland lost Andrew Trimble and he joined Rob Kearney and Geordan Murphy who had already been ruled out of the match.
There are further concerns over the fitness of Stephen Ferris and Tommy Bowe who could also miss the Italian clash in Rome.
