Bryan Redpath extends Gloucester deal

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath has signed a contract extension which will keep him at Kingsholm to the end of next season.

Redpath is also trying to nail down the future of 10 players whose contracts end at the end of this season including England centre Mike Tindall.

“I have to sell Gloucester in terms of where we’ve gone over the last 16 months and where we need to be for the next 16,” Redpath told BBC Sport.

Gloucester are currently sitting in sixth place in the Aviva Premiership and are just two poinst off the play off zone.

With a more settled future Redpath has offered contracts to the players that he wants to retain such as Tindall, Dave Attwood, Paul Doran-Jones, Nicky Robinson and Andy Hazell.

“We will be as competitive as we can,” Redpath told BBC Gloucestershire.

“If a player gets an exceptional offer, we must decide if we go to that level.

“I think we’re on the right track and we must commit to the right things.”

The former Scotland captain joined Gloucester in 2005 and worked under Dean Ryan before being promoted to the top job when Ryan left in 2009.

After more than 18 months in charge Redpath has signed to stay on for a further 12 months until the end of the 2011/12 season.

The coach says that his time is currently split between coaching and talking to agents.

“I want a strong squad,” he said. “Offers have been made and those players have decisions to make.

“They’ve got people to scout round other clubs for them, and it’s the same old cat and mouse situation.

“I think we’ll be competitive enough to get good players at this club.”

“Some we’ll lose and some will go, but that’s the nature of the beast.”
